Aquatic Sport Council

Sporting groups, municipalities, government and entrepreneurs get multiple and conflicting advice about the criteria and cost of aquatic sport training facilities. Each time a new or refurbished pool is under consideration, opinions flow and pressure builds from multiple stakeholders. To help streamline and consolidate the available information and provide a long term focus for pool design the Aquatic Sport Council of Ontario was formed in December 2007, with a funding announcement from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

The Aquatic Sport Council and its products will be of assistance to all interested parties, in the development of:

  • pool classifications, standards and designs
  • an understanding of the value of aquatic sport
  • a master plan for aquatic sport training and competition pools in Ontario

The Aquatic Sport Council works under the auspices of the Aquatic Federation of Canada; which is the recipient of funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation for this initiative.

  • Engage project staff, consultants and support
  • Communicate in a manner that delivers on the principle of transparency
  • Identify and consult with a broad range of stakeholders and experts
  • Build consensus within the aquatic community on the project deliverables
  • Plan for the ongoing leadership and expertise required to support the growth of aquatic infrastructure

The Steering Committee's goal is to achieve their end results through open discussion, consultation and consensus. To this purpose they will be forming several sub-committees and holding forums with broad stakeholder engagement. They will also be contracting experts within specific areas of product design and creation.
